SITREP - February 9th 2012

Earlier today, the House passed the STOCK Act. If you’ve been reading this weekly letter for a while, you know I introduced an alternative that I believed was better. My legislation would have required all members of Congress and the President and Vice President to place their stocks, bonds, and other securities into a blind trust.

As it turned out, the Senate rushed the STOCK Act through their chamber and this morning, the House followed suit. I’m happy to see Congress take a step in the right direction, but I’d be lying if I thought this fixed the problem and did it in the most straightforward way.

Below is a link to my remarks during the debate – both over the bill and the way it was brought up. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.
